Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Raises Fruit Export Standards by Developing a Traceability System of Durian and Longan

Mr. Rapiphat Chanthasriwong, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, revealed that the Department of Agriculture has raised the standards of Thai fruits for export “Thai fruits, quality fruits” (Premium Thai Fruits) according to the policy of Ms. Mananya Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives to create strengths to be competitive and maintain the important fruit export market in the Chinese market by assigning the director of the Horticultural Research Institute together with the Bureau of Agricultural Research and Development, Region 1, Region 6, Region 7, Office of Plant and Agricultural Materials Control, and a group of entrepreneurs exporting Thai fruits to China.

It is expected that in the eastern fruit season in 2023, 11,228 plots of fresh longan from farmers can be exported to China, not less than 300,000 tons, and 27,276 plots of fresh durian, not less than 1 million tons.

In addition, the electronic phytosanitary certificate system (e-Phyto System) can collect data at every stage of production. It is in the process of technical negotiations to exchange information electronically with China therefore ensuring that Thai fresh fruit exports to the Chinese market will be a quality fruit from the orchard of Thai farmers who sorted and packed according to the acknowledged standard of “Premium Thai Fruits” that are trusted and can be traced back.
